Finish It Up Friday :: Target Four Winds Quilt

Did you guys know that Target has redone their craft section recently and it's AWESOME?! Way better than before and it's not as though it was terrible before but they have seriously upped their game. Consider yourself and your wallet warned. They have a few new fabric selections like the bundle above. 12 fat quarters for $20 and the colors and patterns were so fun I couldn't resist.

I whipped up another Four Winds Quilt to take on picnics or to the farmer's market - we have a square quilt we use that just never seemed big enough so I figured adding another square one to the mix would give us all room to spread out sufficiently. I used half the Target bundle and Kona Marine, no white anywhere makes everyone feel better about a spilled drink or muddy shoe not leaving an obvious stain. For the record I'M not the one who worries about it, I think quilts should be used and loved but I live with some very thoughtful people :-)

The Target fabrics have almost a satiny feel to them kind of like Art Gallery fabrics but not as heavy. They did give up some color in the wash so make sure to throw in a color catcher or two when you wash them. They softened up nicely in the wash and I think they're perfect for quick/fun projects like this one.

My last score was a huge duvet that I found in the "as is" section at IKEA and it'll make at least two quilt backs WITH NO PIECING for the WIN! I didn't want to put flannel on the back of an outdoor quilt so this was a great choice. I just did some straight line quilting and bound it in the same Kona I used for the background. Quick finish and it's ready to use this weekend.

Thanks for stopping by and Happy Mother's Day weekend!

  1. Pretty fabrics and they look great in the quilt! I've never seen fabric at Target ... now I'm going to have to check that out soon.

  2. win win all around. Thanks for the tip on Target, and I was going to congratulate you on your fabric selections for the back, but I'll congratulate you on your ikea find.
