That Stash Bee :: January

Welcome to 2015!
 I'm thrilled to be joining That Stash Bee this year and very excited that my month is January.
I chose a GIANT string block!
I put together a quick tutorial to show the steps I used.
Start with a 19" foundation square - I used muslin.

2.5" strip of Kona White for the middle/anchor string. You can use a washable glue stick to attach this string to the foundation square if you're worried about it slipping.

Pin first strip RIGHT SIDE DOWN on top of the white anchor strip. Pin if desired.
Sew along the edge with a 1/4" seam allowance.

Press second strip open.

Attach remaining strips the same way. This is a great way to use up scraps! I used strings that were between 1.5" and 2.5" wide x WOF. I've also pieced strings before to get longer ones when needed. Any fabric is good with me - the more colorful and happier the better :-)

You'll use shorter strips as you get closer to the edge of the square.

Finished block before trimming.

Flip over and trim edges off.

Voila! Giant 19" string block!
I'm so excited to be a part of this bee and thanks in advance for what I'm sure will be amazing blocks.

  3. How many do you want from each of us? I was wondering how I was going to find a big piece of paper for this when I saw your IG post, muslin makes complete sense.
